Hi Chris,
The R-4A is a nice rcvr, the later ones are almost an R-4B. I don't
know for sure, but possibly the early A's had a 4-pole filter, the later &
B's a 6 or 8 pole. The early A's, up to abt s/n 3300 are 13 tube, the ones
from sometime around 3600 have 11, and are very close to B's. I have 1 of
each, and use the early one regularly. It has a mod using switchable
filters from a t-4X that make it really super. You can see some good info
at:

If you decide to sell it for a parts rig, pse keep me in mind. ;-)

performance of the Drake R4 to the R4A, or B ? I have precious few repair
parts for Drake receivers now and I am trying to decide if its worth
repairing an old R4 that has a bad power supply or if the receiver is better
off as a parts rig for someone. The last time my R4 worked (about 10 years
ago) I can't even remember if it worked well or what band I operated on. I
operate primarily 10 meter SSB now. Anybody have any thoughts? /s/ Chris
