Yes I do! :) I was sort of getting tired of the GT Virus hoax
nonsense. It would be almost virtually impossible for a virus to
do all the stuff that the alleged text file from the "FCC" (why do
would-be hackers seemingly always pick that one?) claim would happen.
Now, I know some specific hardware could be damaged by a direct
attack. A printer could be jammed up by some code that tries to make
it print backwards or make the printhead go past where it is supposed
to go. EEPROM registers on video cards and motherboards could get
erased or scrambled and would have to be sent back to the manufacturer
since the EEPROM would be required to get into the system to replace
the EEPROM's instructions. An older type disk drive could be forced
to seek past where it is supposed to seek, and a few of the newer
drives could be messed up by attempting a low-level format. But
other than stuff like that, a virus can't completely make a PC
explode or blow the CPU from a continuous loop. Although I imagine
that some people would want such a program on their machine if it
has been in the shop a lot or won't run their favorite programs! :-)
Later,
Betty
