Wait until you start configuring it. :|  This is one area Linux has to work on.

If samba is already installed, I usually use smbclient to do the transfers
(kind of a cmd line thing that lets you do things dynamically), if not, I
use FTP.

There is, that's what RPM is. (as well as different ones for different
distributions.)
