I have yet to witness any app that requires it.  Mind you I haven't seen Gnome3
in action yet.

Neither gtk or qt are required at the moment.  Everything I do can be done
without a gui including some graphic and multimedia apps - stills (jpegs, pngs,
etc) as well as movies (mpeg, avi, etc).  A gui has never been a requirement
with me.  My desktops tend to look and act more like servers ... sort of.

Anyhow I might do another xorg soon.  At the moment I am still distracted with
the linux console and having fun with it.  Has been this way forever for me.
