On a regular desktop box these dependencies are pretty normal and not really
a problem unless you are trying to run lean and mean on a more limited system
of some sort, like a Pi.

Yes, I think so. gtk3 seems to be showing itself too lately. Some apps, like
transmission can use a gtk or qt (or even ncurses) interface. Would qt be
better for what you are doing?
