GC> I've often said just that. We are living in a
GC> science fiction world. If you could go back in
GC> time to even the 1950s, they would be amazed by
GC> microwaves, computers, VCRs, laser surgery and the
GC> rest of our technological advances. Sci-fi has
GC> come true.
When I was reading and enjoying science fiction in the 50s my foster mother
used to shake her head and say, "I don't understand how an intelligent girl
like you can believe rubbish like that." Now the "rubbish" has not only
happened, most of it is outdated. (Yes, I know I'm outdating myself by
admitting that, but hey!)
GC> It helps with my staff as well. They can't say,
GC> "you didn't tell me...." Our internal email system
GC> even shows a history of the message which shows
GC> when the recipient read it. In addition, I can
GC> assign work without interupting my work flow or the
GC> work flow of my staff. I used to hate when a
GC> manager used to come and assign me more jobs while
GC> I was in the middle of an important project. Email
GC> reduces the interuptions.
The people who work for me are not available for me to walk in on them and
interrupt them. They are working out of their own homes or offices, many of
them in different Provinces, and even the ones in BC are not in the same town
as I am. All of my instructions, supervision, corrections, and suggestions
are done by fax, phone, modem, and mail. The owner of the company has
travelled to Toronto, Montreal, Calgary
Calgary, to see these people face to face, but I don't leave my house. They
all know that I keep copies of every communication to or from them, so there
is no "you didn't tell me that" available to them. I find it helps keep
things running smoothly.
