How do most of the other BBS's do it? I remember even Renegade would
somehow detect ANSI. Even if you just prompted "Does your terminal
support ANSI? [Y,n]" immediately when people connect before logo.bbs
is displayed, that would be nice. 

I really love Maximus! I just needed to get that out of me hehe... I've
been using it since around 1993. At one point I wrote something called ASUM
: Automated Setup Utility for Maximus. It was an RA style menu
configuration program for Max and had handy utils to import/export various
files like AREAS.BBS, BACKBONE.NA, and a few others. It worked great but I
lost half the source code over the years (don't ask how I lost HALF haha)
I'm a bit tempted to re-write it but this time using a door library so that
it can be used remotely too. I've tried to get several people to use Max
over the years and they abandoned it for other BBS's like Illusion :( They
didn't like the CTL files and compiling ANSI's to MECCA :/
