Yes, there is a definite speed increase -- ftp rates that hit 5.2K compared 
to 3.4K with v.34.  Of course, as usual this depends on how loaded the ISP 
is.  I've had ftp rates drop below 1K as well.  Using Netscape/2, web pages 
loaded quite noticeably faster as well but that's harder to produce numbers 
for.
