I remember a (female) advertising person being asked about negative
stereotypes of men in ads e.g. being portrayed as being
stupid/incapable or simple. She said this was what women liked to see.
The interviewers should have followed up with the question that, if
the product was targeted at men, would she be happy if there were
similar negative stereotypes of women (e.g. stupid/incapable).

I'm fairly sure the woman wouldn't have been happy with that so why is
it ok to stereotype men? I have a low opinion of advertising in
general and know that it's not done for altruistic reasons but still
think am amazed more people don't object or people in the industry can
justify the use of so much negative stereotyping of men, with such
specious reasoning.
