Jimmy,
JA>I have echolink on my computer and on my phone. Have only played around with
JA>it some, but was using it to talk to a guy in Alabama. He was sitting in a
JA>parking lot waiting for the tire shop to open and was scanning local repeate
JA>Worked like a charm! He had no idea I wasn't 'there' until I told him how
JA>I was connecting!
Unlike with the computer, if you connect via a Smartphone, they don't
know you're there, unless you throw out your callsign. Now, at the
computer, I see those who connect with a smartphone, but unless the
system announces the callsign of the ham who just linked in or unlinked,
you'll never know they are there.
JA>Understood. I was actually so busy with stuff last week that I didn't talk
JA>hardly at all. I usually chat on the way home from work. There's been a
JA>lot more activity in one of the towns near me. There's a weather net
JA>every night and I check in when I can, but again have been out of pocket
JA>at the right time. :-)
With doing traffic nets each night, it helps me remember what day of
the week it is. :P
Daryl
