What make are you using?  It has been awhile but it seems to me that the
native make on FreeBSD has problems with "other" code.  I think
you might havve to install gmake and run that instead of make.  Something
like that.

With bash, "make > filename" will redirect stdout to filename,
"make 1> filename" will redirect stdout to filename, while
"make 2> filename" will redirect stderr to filename.  Just do
the first method.
