UTP
Does any one have an DeFacto ref. for the wiring ? Sorta like
an IEN, RFC-xxxx, "The papers" or
something like it.
Both Straight (std) and crossed (adapter - adapter; no HUB)
With/without Half/Full dublex
Does the colour coding have a std. too ?
Sorta like :
- Every colour is defined as follows ... but nobody cares :)
- Pairs (colour & stripe) are always +/-, Rx/Tx ...
And 3 quick ones :
- Apart from price, shouldtnt STP be better ?
- Whats the CAT-6 (SIX) story ? (as opposed to
  CAT-5 / 100 MBit)
- Is it true that by def. u cant make CAT-5 cabling u'r self ?
(i do all the time, but some say the final cable should be
  mesured w. a specialized instrument)
And to be just a bit on topic. :)
Server: NW-4.11 unpatched
(but using the DEC drv. that came w. the DEC card)
Intel Zappa P120/32MB, EIDE-2.0 Gig (but only 2*500 Vol's
mounted) (Using IDEATA Not the HAM drvr)
Net-1 = 3C509 / 10 MBit IPX & TCP/IP
Net-2 = DEC-500 PCI / 100 MBit IPX
At time of test Only my WS is attached to the server
Free cache buffers = approx. 16 MB
Workstation:
Tyan P166/48 MB AHA-2940 / 5400 rpm scsi disks
Win95 w. Native client (+ MS NDS-Auth & PowerToy auto login)
and similar card (DEC-500)
(Half Dublex crossed cable, 4.3 K max rcv pkts)
In Winfile (the 3.x file mgr) a copy of any file, or directory
structure that is less than 15 Megs, is carried out at
approx 10 MegaBytes pr. sec. (yes.. a directory w. 17 files
of a combined size of 15 Megs takes 1.5 sec.)
If i try to copy say.. a 32 MB file.. the net result is
between 0.9 and 1.3 MB pr. sec.
Thats approx 1/10 of the speed :(((
Whats the story ??????
