Heh. I'm using OS/2. The stragegy is "security by obscurity".
This is more effective than might be supposed, because OS/2 is not only
obscure, it is actively deprecated. No-one would want to invite the scorn
of their peers by creating/releasing an exploit for OS/2. Plus it's secure
by default (no ports open as installed), and comes with an industrial grade
firewall ported from AIX.
So you take a solid multitasking OS with drivers for current mainstream
hardware, add applications like Open Office, Firefox and Thunderbird, put
it all together on a cheap, quiet and obsolete machine (this one is a 733
MHz IBM desktop that is quiet as a tomb), and voila - an Internet
Appliance. Turn it on and use it. No maintenance required, and anything
that bites it dies.
