Quite all right.  I figgered out a while back that my basic problem
is that I want humanity to be humane, and that ain't gonna happen,
so...

Most of humanity is humane. Even people who are not can  become so under the
right circumstances - just as those who are mostly humane can be inhumane
under the right provocation. You never see cats forming a rescue party to
pull a cat they've never met from a well, or dogs mounting a search and
rescue operation, or birds pulling other birds from burning buildings or
cars - or even risking their own lives to save creatures of another species
as humans do. Granted dogs and horses will risk themselves to save humans -
but only the ones who have been raised by humans and taught humane ways.

Humans are the full spectrum of worse than other creatures to better than
other creatures and everything in between - but humane is only found in
humans, and it's pretty much universal
