I swing both ways, and each langauge has its strong & weak points.

But Java is a platform, so doing all manner of "big things" becomes
easier. The next release of Apple Game Server will be a stellar
example of what happens when you move the "hard stuff" - in this case
the whole UI - to the PC side.

The Apple II side is a small serial driver kernel with a few commands,
while the PC side reads XML files, throws around Apple II file & disk
data and creates text or hires UI images. You would be amazed to see
how quickly Brendan put this stuff together.

Anyway, AGS and ADTPro are also great examples of using the serial
port cross-platform (via the RXTX lib) to do cool things, which is
what a PC-assisted SVD would need. (Or the equivalent in C++ - I don't
know any free/OSS C++ serial libs offhand.)

Cheers,
Nick.
