I think I vaguely remember something of the sort when I first put my bbs
up,  under dos (where it still is!).  It was suggested in the maximus docs,
 if I'm remembering right.

Maybe if I can get enough of this other stuff out of the way I can think
about moving the bbs to some sort of a linux-based setup...
