Heh.. I've never liked Ubuntu's "Unity" desktop shell/environment. To boot,
they've changed it around so many times and done so many stupid and ignorant
things with it, it's not even funny anymore.

First issue was, they tried to make that Unity originally for Netbooks. It was
slow as hell on netbooks because of the level of OpenGL/Compositing they use in
it. heh.

Second issue, somewhere around 12.04 or so, that side bar of icons? On
dual-screen monitors, that bar was on both screens, and they added mouse
"resistance" to move the mouse from screen 2 to screen 1 (right to left). So
you basically had to kind of shove your mouse over to the left until it finally
made it there.

Third issue, and most important, and why I have completely abandoned all Ubuntu
and Canonical for life: Mir. Canonical was working with Wayland for a long
time, then suddenly they call out and say they're working on Mir, a competitor
to Wayland directly. Just out of the blue slapped them and the entire Linux
community in the face outright. And has it paid off to Ubuntu at all? No.
They've actually had a lot of people, including powerful people involved in
Linux, to turn their backs to them.

Okay, so, that's my $0.02 (per minute), so pay up. :D
