I really don't know what it stood for. I assumed it was short
for intelectual, since it encouraged discussion of topics and
discouraged - no, outright banned - flames and such.

When I first learned about and starting using BBS's in the 90's,
there was one board that had some usenet feeds, but that was
it other than local stuff. I think they had four incoming
lines.

Then The Fridge opened with TEN nodes and they were echoing
Intelec! I was suddenly introduced to a WORLD of stuff and
loved it! I jumped into several topics right off the bat and
next thing I knew I was moderator on one, then another, then
finally another. It was very cool!

Later the sysops there started VOL_NET, which connected several
Tennessee boards with each other. These were mostly long distance
from each other and even included a couple of North Mississippi
& North Alabama BBS's. This was cool as well, and in a different
way. :-)
