I know a lady in Texas who does a regular newsletter and she has never
found the need to update to 2.01, although she did have to learn a few
tricks for managing GeoFile and printing.

Fax 9000 lets you fax out of Ensemble at whatever speed your fax modem
is capable of (i.e. 9000 does not refer to its speed). It was just one
application that came to mind which does require 2.01. There are others
and anything being developed at the moment may have a similar
requirement simply because it will have been developed with GEOS 2.01
and may, inadvertently take advantage of some minor change in that
operating system.

The HP 660C used with the 550C (four colour) driver works well as far as
inkjets go. Other four colour inkjets should be OK. Three colour ones
tend to give poor blacks with the colour cartridge. I use an HP 600 and
have found that setting the page size in printer options to 21.6 by 30.7
(one click bigger than A4 in each direction) stops GEOS from wanting to
rescale the page, except where headers or footers are placed close to
the edge of the page. Even then it helps because the rescaling is
minimal.
The Canon BJC 600 works fine with the 800 driver or the Epson 2550C, so
other Canon models could be OK as well.
The HP 4L laser also works well. Presumably the current 5L would
do as well. Full 600 dpi lasers need 2MB of memory for satisfactory
results. Avoid printers that require GDI or Windows Printing System.
A report in GSMN's "A Snail's Pace" says that about 50 new printer
drivers are under test. I suspect that what is really happening is that
recent printers are being tested with the old drivers and, if they work
all right, will be added to the list. If you make a comparison between
the number of printers that are shown in Preferences and the actual
printer drivers supplied, you will see that each driver supports several
(or more) printers.
