Though it was the hair and beard that I was actually referring to; I *love* long hair on men, and beards/goatees on many of them. He's just plain *pretty*. (Though in real life looks much more the "bad boy" than Viggo, at least as far as I could tell from the interviews.) > [Too much the actress, I paid attention when they said how fragile the > ears are. Subtle thing.... such a pain to watch a show and be thinking as > much about HOW the delivery goes as what the message might be.] Missed that one, but caught a few others. Overall, though, the acting and editing was so good that I didn't catch too many. (Or maybe I was just too involved in the story!) > Speaking of movies, How to Lose Your Boyfriend in 10 Days is a nice light > romantic comedy worth the trouble if romantic comedy falls in your > tastes. Sure, you know how it's going to end, but, otoh, the digressions > they take getting there are nicely thought. [Or maybe I just spent too > much time in publishing/advertising....] I've thought about seeing that; I do like romantic comedies. BTW, _Catch Me If You Can_ is amusing, too. > > Then, of course, there are Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin > > (Billy Boyd), who are purely amusing. :) > > In #1, yeah, but their characters are maturing quite well. They do in the books, as well; though in the books, they were never quite as mischievous as in the movie. A lot of that came from the actors. (You should listen to the cast commentary of the movie sometime, if you have the Extended DVD version. Dom and Billy had me rolling on the floor.) I'm reading _Return of the King_ now; wonder how they're going to get their final maturation into the next movie. > Their brand of black humored comic relief isn't as, well, lathered on as > poor Gimli.... But maybe that's because they don't have so much STUFF on > 'em so the facial closeups of glittering eyes and grim lips plays better. Slightly different comic relief, too; the hobbits' senses of humor aren't as black as Gimli's, ever. Gimli did, however, have some *great* scenes in _The Two Towers_; and the friendship between him and Legolas is growing nicely. I loved the look on his face when Legolas defended him among the Riders of Rohan. :) > I do feel their casting is 2nd only to the guy playing Sam, who is > spot-spot on. He is, that. In fact, I have no quarrel with any of the casting. I know there are some who don't care for Elijah Wood as Frodo, but personally, I think he was well-cast; he shows very well the progression of carefree young hobbit to careworn Ringbearer, with continued flashes of himself (though less and less frequent as the story wears on). The problem with these movies is that the cute guys are either too old for me (e.g. Viggo, born in 1958), too young for me (e.g. Elijah Wood, born in 1981), or married (e.g. Sean Astin). Grrrrr! > > Lissa GreatFilms,Those Wingling > > They've done ok.... Well, I never got into the books until after I'd seen the movies, so I came into them with no preconceptions of "what should be." Personally, I think they're amazing. > I do love the state the film industry's come to.... woooo. Eye candy!
