Not nessicarily.  Super Mario RPG used a diffirent story, and mario 64,
although it had basically the same story (trounce bowser, save
princess, etc.)  I fould all the extra fixings, like the races,
collecting coins, finding things, etc, was a big improvement to the
hop-on-the-bad-guys concept played to death in previous mario games.
Then again, mario's not exactly the type of game you need an extremely
detailed plot to enjoy (let's face it, you can only make up a story to
a certain point with a high-jumping italian plumber)  Don't get me
wrong though, i can't stand an rpg without a good story.  That reminds
me, i need to get a saturn...just saw puzzle bobble 3 for sale (cheer)
and that long list of anime rpg's (have i proved my anime-loving self
yet?) :)
