Hi, Mark! Recently you wrote in a message to Wilfred van Velzen:
ER>>>>> Origin: Group: Fidon
WV>>>> "Group: fidon" ??
JS>>> New FTN? Typo? I'm leaning toward typo.
ml>> i suspect it being more that the group was specified
ml>> as "Fidonet" and the person that did that did not know
ml>> that the field is limited to five characters ;)
Ah. I didn't know it was limited to five characters either.
WV> I do read in ECHOBASE.MOD:
ml> look! you found it ;) ;) B-)
Uh-huh. Now look again at these lines:
WV> Group (GROUP) -
WV> This is an abbreviated network affiliation word.
[....]
WV> FIDO - FIDONet
While some folks leave the space blank, others... including
you & Dallas... use "FIDO" in at least some of their updates.
WV> Do all these nets still exist, btw?
ml> looking at the line above that list, those are groups,
ml> not nets... not nets as in FTN networks...
IIRC Bob Hoffman was gating msgs to & from FamilyNet at
one time. I'm not clear on the details, but I think "FIDO" was
meant to refer to our own beloved Fidonet & the remainder may be
Othernets we've never heard of.... :-)
