With cookies turned off and purging of your history enabled (in IE) using
the google web search is anonymous and they can't track what other searches
you've run.
With the toolbar they keep a history of searches and it's tied to your
computer. If you have gmail, now they know where you browse and who you
talk to, maps you view, etc. They can build a pretty complete profile on
you.
