  Not sure where the uptime command might be hiding, but I doubt they've
totally gotten rid of it.  If nothing else:
khelair@warmheart:/mishmash/VMs$ cat /proc/uptime
328065.58 120851.29

  So long as you don't mind doing a little math.  ;)  Anyway, apt-get install
bc will help with the math.  ;)
