subject: new fix for BW reader!

Now that I finally was able to do a full beta test on the patched
BlueWave reader that my husband (the resident Wizard) has been working
on, I can announce that it works!

Richard had been looking for a way to fix the Y2K date problem that
shows up in the QWK .rep packets. He patched some of the code that had
to do with the way the date was shown, both in the listing of message
packets and in the message itself. When I close the reply packet, I no
longer lose the dates on the messages, and no longer need to use Dale's
REPFIX to keep from having the last number of the date/time spill into
the To: line. And the date of the message packet shows up, for example,
as 11 Jan106 instead of 11 Jan 10 in the listing of packets. Messages
toss properly, in the QWK door, into various areas on the bbs and had no
trouble echoing into Fidonet. (I didn't have a BW door handy to try
out, but it shouldn't be a problem there either, as the fix is for the
QWK/REP packets not native BW, which has a different date format, so
this wouldn't change anything for .NEW packets.)

He has patches done and available for the DOS 2.20, 2.30, and the
DOS/386 versions.

This should also work for the OS/2 reader, but he would need the
bwave.exe file from the OS/2 archive to work with it (it won't install
onto a non-OS/2 machine, of course).

He also would be willing to try patching of the Hatchew BW doors, if
someone is willing to work with him on testing one on a bbs. He thinks
he has figured that out as well, but needs a beta tester (aka guinea
pig) for that. He thinks that they mangle the packets as it puts them
into the areas, in the same way that the reader was mangling the reps.

Obligatory disclaimer: No, we haven't the foggiest idea either how to
contact George and get permission or the source files.
