I think the exceptions are LE and not much more. I know I don't get one
(even though I've got a FL concelaed weapons permit) and I've been vetted
through just about every agency there is over the years.
GFSZA is an incredibly poorly written law, I read it when it first came out
and it doesn't even make any exceptions for normal locked/unloaded
transport through an area where these simply is no other option but to pass
within 1000' of a school. I was sensitive to this point because I live on
a section of dead-end streets where the ONLY way out is by a school on the
corner. In the development there are hundreds of houses effected by this.
There was no provision for "grandfathering" these kinds of areas.
Obviously dozens, perhaps hundreds of people in my area are guilty of
technical violations constantly due to this obvious oversight.
