It's probably worth your time to have a look at Alex and Steve's
http://www.applelogic.org/ and perhaps use Google groups to read their
posts here over the last few months.
They already have various FPGA solutions. For instance Alex recently
said he sliced off the video scanner portion of his FPGA //e and used
it to create a VGA card with the upcoming Carte Blanche. The site also
mentions a IIgs project.
