Greg,
I have taken permanent marker off with 99% Isapropal alcohol.  This is 
normally available at stores as rubbing alcohol beside the 70% stuff and is 
a bit more costly.  I think that it will be ok on the drake face plates as 
they are not just paint stencils.  None the less, be careful.  Use a small 
stir straw to dip in the alcohol and your finger to hold the liquid and 
control a small drop on the mark.  Like a chemical pipet dropper.
