From: "Frank Haber" Now that GUIs have won the war, and all of this is of academic interest only, I'm still compelled to remind everyone that ***the most legible and least tiring onscreen text I've ever used is, wait for it, 94x36 fixed-pitch sans UltraVision DOS. Soft grey on white. Beautiful, and f*ck those fontaholics.** I admit I'm a linear kinda guy, and seldom indulge in sprays of windows for their own sake. But I can love dual monitors. (Remember a text tube for Autocad's menus? Remember a secondary CGA tube for Lotus' charts, before that?) I also don't have to deal with mutiwindow IDEs, where screen real estate counts. You can be sure, every time I need to write more than 3-4 pages, I fire up the DOS beast and WordStar. Progress? What's that? ======== Be sure to tune in for my next tirade: "Why, just because Hollywood went widescreen, do we have to buy 16:9 monitors for use in a world that's mostly a very vertical set of Web screens, and single-column text documents? There ain't nothing else out there this year. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 106/2000 633/267 |
