Perhaps the immediate future, and reliability can only improve. But I've
also read about crystal storage. I like that idea much better.

I have an 8gb ram stick, it is anything but cool.

It would be simple to have these files moved to a different memory chip
(like cache) so that you aren't actually writing the bulk to flash.
