D>Some very nice stuff on that LP, BTW. A side project from Roxy Music's
D>guitarist, Phil Manzanera, for those youngsters who may be unaware...
SD> I didn't know that, either. Never heard any other QS music, although
SD> they're on my list (like that means anything).
The notes to _The Greater Antilles Sampler_ say that QS was Phil's
pre-Roxy group, and the album (_Mainstream_, I think) is sort of
a reunion effort.
SD> Phil did a bunch of other stuff outside RM, too.
I concur with Kenneth that _801 Live_ is a real good one, and I like
his first solo album quite a bit, too. Phil shows good sense and
decent taste in employing guest vocalists when singing seems needed.
Though one of my favorite guitarists of the 70's, Phil wasn't an
instantly recognizable flashy stylist. If he was less restrained,
and into leads more than rhythm, Roxy Music would probably be
considered more Prog nowadays. In those pre-punk days, they were
certainly exploring more new ground than (fill in the blank).
The lack of virtuosity-for-its-own-sake, even more than Ferry's
vocal mannerisms, probably accounts for their being considered
even more Not Prog than David Bowie...
Anyway, Manzanera contributed to some of the better albums by John
Cale and Brian Eno, too. And the Christmas CD Manzanera and Mackay
"Presented" on Rykodisc (_The Players Christmas_) is one of the best
acoustic instrumental albums in that genre...

... Anyway, that's what it says here and I'm only reading it.
