Hi Joe!
I purchased a new photocopy machine for my office about 18 months ago.
I found out that competition was high among the different companies.
Several were willing to bring out an appropriate model and let me use it
for 3-5 days. This was an excellent chance to figure out if it fit my
needs.
Although I was on a higher end than you are thinking of, I will show my
purchase as an example of the discounts you can get. The first company
pegged my Konica 1015 @ $3,200. A salesman for another company was
dying to close out his year with mega-sales and offered it to me for
$2,450. It didn't take me long to decide. :)
I suggest looking into a used (2-3yr old) copier that had originally
been leased or traded in. It is amazing what can be purchased for
$700-$900. My church purchased a older Minolta with document feeder,
sorter, bells&whistles, and 3or4 paper feed trays for $900. Set your
price and haggle them down to the penny. More than the purchase price
they want to put you in a maintenance agreement. Tell'em you can't sign
a maintenance agreement unless you can afford to purchase it.
You'll end up getting a better copier than if you purchase a
disposable copier.

PS I just gave away a 12yr old copier to my church's library. It
works and does letter, legal, & 11x17.
