Y'ello Jerry!
Great (sur) name! :) I like it.
CA>> ;) In the middle of a Java project just now and although
CA>> you get everything for free I just feel there was more fun
CA>> developing your own dynamic array classes etc., and besides
CA>> you could build in your own functionality. You understood
CA>> how the wretch worked at least.
JC> First of all, I'd point out
JC> that the current draft of the C++ standard includes classes for
JC> vectors, maps, etc. Despite them being included with the
JC> compiler, you can develop your own instead.
Well, I've used SUN's CC and GNU C++ and not encountered these: probably just
didn't know they were there.
JC> Unless I'm badly mistaken, the same is basically true in Java as
JC> well. However, I don't use Java much since it's not particularly
JC> suited to the sort of work I do; as such, my comments on details
JC> about Java should be taken lightly.
Well, you're spot on. Java comes with *EVERYTHING*. That's what I meant,
it's
a complete contrast to C++. Fine for cutting down Software Development
Lifecycles; not good for educating students. When I first bought "Java in a
Nutshell" I thought it was brilliant. After having used it for a year, I
ave
come to the conclusion that it has a long way to go. Corel's Java Office is
amazing, but painstakingly slow.
CA>> I dunno what you talk about in this echo so I just thought I
CA>> would launch in full force with some youthful enthusiasm.
JC> As long as it's topical, youthful enthusiasm is welcome...
Ok boss, I'll remember. :) Have fun Jerry!
