I managed to reach someone at Ofcom (the U.K. radio licensing authority)
since posting my original message here. Their reply was slightly vague,
saying that I /could/ apply for a reciprocal license, that it would cost
UKP 15 and that I would need to fill out some (unspecified) forms. The
implication seems to be that I would have to do this to use a radio in the
U.K. Thanks for the suggestion though, I will certainly have a look at the
RSGB site.
