One has to wonder what the numbers would be if they were adjusted for inflation.... FWIW I worked for Berkshire-Hathaway from 1985-88, and I thought the company's stock was overpriced (then $3,000/share). Now it's something over $75,000/share. IMO nothing is worth that kind of money - even if it's a holding company that owns a bunch of well known brands - GEICO, Dairy Queen, See's Candies, Borsheim's Jewelers Florsheim shoes and Nebraska Furniture Mart (which used to be the biggest one-location furniture store in the country until they expanded from Omaha to Kansas City) among others. B-H also owns big pieces of Coca Cola and the Washington Post newspaper corporation. I can remember when one could purchase 15 gallons of gasoline, a pack of cigarettes and a coke - and get change for a $5 bill. A couple of years ago I bought a brand new Sears Craftsman snow blower. Had occasion recently to look at it a bit more closely. "Made in China." I'm not particularly surprised but I am disappointed - I have a Sears Craftsman riding mower that has "Made in USA" on it. ---* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 848 @PATH: 300/3 116/901 3634/12 123/500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
