I became one when I was still quite young, I think ten.  I
was doing the pneumonia thing in the school infirmary at
school for the blind, and the kid in neighboring bed had a
couple volumes of one of those best of science fiction
collections, had a story by Heinlein and some others from
some of the masters.  From there it was on to novel length
stuff of Heinlein, then ASimov.

GOulart, yah i seem to remember a couple of his.
Edward E. Smith, some of those would have made great movies
if you could figure out how to do the special effects.  Lots of blow stuff
up and melt it with energy beams, etc.
