Bob Seger and The Eagles are hardly country by any cogent estimation. Johnny
Cash, OTOH, grew up in Dyess, AR and picked cotton with his family long before
he picked a guitar.

Johnny Cash was a helluva guy and a huge bundle of contradictions. After all
the drug and alcohol problems he had during his life it was undiagnosed
diabetes that did him in. He was the first one I heard make the statement that
country music is "just white man's blues". I don't think that was
original with
him, however.
