Obviously this film disturbed you on some deep subliminal level... 
Perhaps it's the contrast to your "Coo's Bay" environment?

She was considerably more than cute...and had to convey much of her 
characters role without benefit of dialouge...Her FEAR reaction early 
in the flick was VERY vivid and extremely convincing....as was the 
"attitude" of superiority that came a bit later...
