Hi, Rowan.

RC> Answering msg from Glenn D'Abrera to Anyone,

RC> GDA> does anyone know what BSS refers to in borlandc's far data segment?

RC> Hi Glenn,

RC> While this is not a direct answer, I was coding with TASM only minutes
RC> ago and noticed that the MAP file had a similar reference:

RC> Start Stop Length Name Class

RC> 00000H 00971H 00972H _TEXT CODE
RC> 00972H 00984H 00013H _DATA DATA
RC> 00986H 00A51H 000CCH _BSS BSS

RC> In this case, _BSS is unitialised data, that is, it's a memory location
RC> reference without an explicit initial value. Hope this is of some help.

I can't remember what it stands for either, but it was the pseudo
op-code to reserve uninitialised storage (ie, same meaning) on the
very first computer I ever used, a CDC-3200. I don't think I'll tell you
the year. :-)

Regards, FIM.
