Terry May had this to say to Rob Ferrara and I quote:
RF> Many people tuned in to watch the Masters Sunday that had
RF> never watched a golf tournament before. It wasn't because of
RF> that rather mundane cast of characters that have been playing
RF> the last twenty years. It was strictly because of Tiger
RF> Woods.
TM> That's probably true, but a lot of that is probably Tiger's
TM> newness.
Maybe. I think there's more than newness involved. The
whole Tiger Woods package is appealing.
TM> Who is to say those same people will keep tuning in after
TM> Tiger's been around awhile?
If it's even just a few, he has been good for the game. I
feel rather safe in saying it will be more than just a few.
RF> Change what? Making golf more affordable? It very well
RF> might. It would not surprise me to golf courses start
RF> springing up.
TM> They already are, but Tiger winning or losing won't have
TM> anything to do with affordability. That will be determined by
TM> the marketplace.
Tiger's presence will affect demand and therefore the
marketplace. I think more people will want to play and
supply will find a way to meet the demand.
