subject: QWK/REP vs DWNLD/UPLD

AL:PG> When I upgraded to QMPro (been a lonnggg time gone now) I
AL:PG> was pleased to see that they allowed for the separation of
AL:PG> the QWK/REP directories from the DOWNLOAD/UPLOAD
AL:PG> directories. Well, that's what we thought at the time.
AL:PG> When MSI was questioned why the separation didn't work (QWK
AL:PG> packets are still dl'd to the DL directory and the REP
AL:PG> packets must still be in the designated UL directory) they
AL:PG> treated those that questioned like they were idiots.
AL:The problem here is, that you apparently misunderstood what they were
AL:indicating. You can indeed configure QmodemPro for DOS to utilize up
AL:and download directories that are different from the QWK/REP directories
AL:utilized by OLX v1.53. However, doing so does not mean that QmodemPro
AL:for DOS sends or receives .QWK mail packets to or from the separate
AL:directories. Your apparent belief that it should, is incorrect. If you
AL:wish your QWK/IN directory to be different from your QmodemPro for DOS
AL:download directory, that's just fine and you can have it that way.
AL:However, it necessarily means that after you download a new .QWK mail
AL:packet, that it is also necessary for you to manually move it from the
AL:download directory to the QWK/IN directory so that OLX can find it.
Tell me . . . what were they indicating? Their adding
these unique function . . . what did they actually do?
We could *always* set up separate directories.
I'm not exactly sure of what your saying that I
haven't already said. I included my belief that
without actually being functional, there was no
significance to the -added function-. You share the
obvious but you haven't offered any additional
information or understanding just *how* we all gained
      from this -added function-.
Way back when they first introduced the -added
function-, it became very apparent that you use it to
define new directories, but it didn't mean anything.
Yes. I knew you could still use the new directories
and manually move the QWK packets to the *new and
improved* new directory for anything to work.
Now what was it we gained again?
All I was saying, even though I am obviously
"incorrect", was why didn't they go ahead and make the
      -added function- of some value?
Again, perhaps *this* time you will help me understand
      what they were indicating . . .
      thanks.
            phil
