Hi all! I've been reading some on this conference for a month or two
but have never posted before. I've been procrastinating making a
decision about my daughter's schooling and have just about run out of
time but it was suggested to me today that I query here for help.
My daughter is 14 yrs. old. She went to public school K-5 partly
because I thought homeschooling was alot different than it is. By the
time we got thru 5th grade I felt I had to find out more about
homeschooling because I wanted to do what was best for my daughter and
public school definately was not it. So, we've homeschooled for 3
years. The first year was a very difficult time in my life and I just
jumped in with some workbooks and little else. By the time we got to
her 7th grade year I had connected with a local homeschool group and
began using various popular curriculums. Through all 3 years I've had
my daughter do alot of "book work" which is not her best or favorite
style of learning but seems to me a good way for me to know if she is
comprehending and learning the material. She has continued to
participate in sports with her public school friends but has done little
else to continue those friendships. Now she is suddenly interested in
more time with friends and wants to go to public school. I was
interested in her perhaps taking a couple classes at the school and
doing the rest at home but have learned that the school has 90 minute
classes so that seems to not be the best solution.
I would appreciate any kind suggestions and ideas and thank you all in
advance. There seems to be so much more available for the younger
grades. I apologize for the lengthy message - I wanted to include all
crucial information and hope I did that.
Thank you for your responses. Tristin Grousbeck in Creswell, OR
