Bi> No luck yet, either determining variety or sex. (One thing I
Bi> *don't know how to do is sex chicks.)
LM> I buy mine already sexed... they cost a tad more, then if i want HENS,
LM> I want hens...
So do, but what I don't know is how those at the hatchery tell the
difference (and I would like to). BTW, to the best of my knowledge, sexing
is generally only 90% correct. As witness, we bought 15 pullets in our first
batch but one of the Rhodes is *definitely turning out to be a cock.

LM> What do you do with the Guinea? Eat the eggs? Keep as pets? EAT the
LM> Guineas? (...)
I see you caught the answer later on. However, I would suppose the
eggs could be eaten, but most what keep them do so as a meat bird. I hear
they're very good eating. 'Course here, the S/O would never let me butcher
anything. If God had meant us to eat any of our farm animals, they'd come
out covered with plastic wrap.
Bi> chipping and peeping going on. Looks like I'm going to be a Dad soon.
LM> Any luck, DAD?
As of today, out of 14 we've had one die in the egg and 10 hatch.
There's still 3 eggs in the incubator. The hatchlings downstairs in the
make-shift brroder (the other chicks just came out of the real one and it
needs to be cleaned) range in age from 9 days to just hours.
