subject: Cne-5 requirements

On March 23, Novell will announce the new CNE-5 program. While they
will offer more details in their announcement, I thought I might steal
a little of their thunder and share the course/test requirements here:
Remember, Novell only requires you to pass tests on these subjects;
courses are not required, but are encouraged. Information provided here
is on the courses (where my interests lie as a CNI).
These courses/tests are required:
560 NetWare 5 Administration 5 days
565 Networking Technologies 3 days
570 NetWare 5 Advanced Admin. 5 days
575 NDS Design and Implementation 3 days
580 Service & Support 5 days
In addition one (1) elective is required, choosing from below:
350 GroupWise 5 Administration 3 days
555 Integrating Windows NT 4 days
730 Net. Mgmt. using ManageWise 2 days
770 Securing Intranets w/BorderMgr 3 days
Courses 804 (Install. & Config.), 540 (Building Intranets), and 605
(TCP/IP Transport) have been built into the new classes, but will
remain available for the CNE-3 and IntranetWare CNE tracks.
Courses 200 (Net. Tech.), 532 (Design & Imple.), and 801 (Service &
Support) have been replaced, and will be retired. Tests for these
courses will be retired April 30, 1999.
The new courses and tests will become available starting in August.
Existing CNE-4 or IntranetWare-CNEs should upgrade to the CNE-5 through
529 NetWare 4.11 to NetWare 5 Update. Classic CNEs or CNE-3 should
instead take the 570 class/test, due to the significant changes between
the programs. Either test will be recognized for the upgrade
requirements.
Additional details and promotions will be available from Novell or your
NAEC after the March 23 announcement.
