Who does that locking? For testing stop PCBorad and try golded again.

Maybe r/w is required for lastreadpointer updates? Difficult to guess without PCB. I found some PCB user related stuff in the docs:

      PCBOARDPATH 

            Defines the default path where GoldED should look for the PCBoard
            setup files if it can't find the PCBOARD environment variable.


        PCBOARDUSERNO   (0)

            Specifies the lastread set used in the PCBoard message base.
