I wonder.  Mine is to get this stuff running under linux.  In the case of
others it seems that maintaining portability to a number of different
platforms is of somewhat higher importance...

Heck,  I'd be happy with version 2.x ported,  since I don't use much of
what's been added in the 3.x versions anyhow.
