You don't *have* to charge the Prius plug-in, which makes it convenient. if you don't, you get "only" 50 mpg. It's about 0.9 kwh to charge at home, takes about 3 hours for a full charge. PG&E has a EV charge plan that's time of day based, I'm going to look into that.
