Concerning _Annoying tones_, Scott Christensen said to Troy H. Cheek in
SCANRADIO:
SC> What you were hearing is probably one of the higher PL tones that the
SC> scanner wasn't filtering out. Anyway, a parametric equalizer would
SC> be better than a graphic equalizer.
Oh, no doubt. But while I have a graphic equalizer already bought and paid
for and installed in my car...
SC> Rane makes a good low-end parametric (SP-15 or RA-15 models) that
SC> they sell for sound reinforcement and broadcast use. It will set you
SC> back about $550 (depending on where you buy it) so it is well within
SC> the range of many scanner users.
My equalizer cost me something like $50 on sale...
SC> Of course you will then want to follow the equalizer with a good
SC> amp... maybe something by Bose or Sherwood.
And had an amp built in...
SC> With that setup you could run more watts into the speakers than most
SC> agencies run into antennas!
And my little 40 watt speakers would no doubt thank me for it. :-)
Seriously, it's good to know that such options exist, but sometimes it's just
better for me to go with what I've already got onhand.
... Amateur Radio Operators do it with much greater frequency!
