Luann,
Here's what I would have with me:
       1) Flashlights with spare batteries - keep one by your bed, one
by the child's
       2) An inexpensive pocket radio with spare batteries - tape it to
the radio - a Radio Shack Flavor Radio will work just fine, they're
sensitive and don't cost much. If you're out of power, the local radio
stations may not be, but stations in the area may not be.
       3) Formula and diapers for a week for the baby.
       4) Fresh water. You might want to get some plastic milk
containers and fill them, sealing them tightly, with fresh water
(change them once in a while).
       5) A small first-aid kit, with gear for cuts, bruises, etc. One
for the house.
       6) Grooming items, such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc.
       7) A spare set of clothes
       8) Emergency blankets - the little space ones would do if you
have to go at once.
       9) Tools for your car, spare tires, jacks, flares, maps, if you
have to leave the area
       10) A Swiss Army knife
       11) Plastic bags - good for keeping dry on the ground, good to
use as a portable toilet if you must
       12) Portable mirror.
There are more items, and if anyone else has suggestions, let me
know.
