Hi, David.
MD> Oh, could some one send me a listing of all the DC heroes who have
MD> had people take over for them, and what became of them, as well as
MD> the BatMan tree? (Including Black Canary and Oracle, of course.)
DB> Conner Hawke took over as Green Arrow for Oliver Queen.
DB> Kyle Ryner took over as Green Lantern for Hal Jordon
DB> Wally West took over as Flash for Barry Allen
DB> Jason Todd took over as Robin for Dick Grayson
DB> Tim Drake took over as Robin for Jason Todd
DB> Rick Tyler took over as Hourman for Rex Tyler
DB> Ray Terrill took over as The Ray for Happy Terrill
DB> I know there are more like Black Condor, Phantom Lady, and
DB> Firebrand. These are just the ones that I am most familiar with!
Here's my contributions and additions to your list:
1) Dinah Lance (daughter) replaced Dinah Drake-Lance (mother) as
Black Canary. Black Canary I is deceased. Black Canary II is
      still active
2) a) Hal Jordan replaced Alan Scott as Green Lantern. Jordan was
killed reigniting the sun during "the Final Night" storyline.
Alan Scott gave up being Green Lantern... only to end up
becoming Sentinel (he no longer needs a power ring).
    b) John Stewart temporarily replaced Hal Jordan as Earth's Green
Lantern. Stewart became a Darkstar after Jordan destroyed the
Green Lantern Corps... and was crippled in the line of duty.
His legs were repaired as a farewell gesture by Hal Jordan (see:
      "Parallax: Emerald Night").
    c) Guy Gardner temporarily replaced Hal Jordan as Earth's Green
Lantern. Gardner ended up with Sinestro's yellow power ring for
a while... before it was destroyed in battle against an insane
Hal Jordan. Shortly after that, he began wearing a suit of
armour and later still gained a totally new super-power...
      changing his super-name to "Warrior".
    d) Kyle Rayner replaces Hal Jordan (see David Blocker's list).
3) There've been 3 Atoms.
    a) Al Pratt. (deceased)
    b) Ray Palmer. (was de-aged to his teen years and is currently
      active in "the Teen Titans")
    c) Atom III. (the son of a murdered senator and a member of the
      Suicide Squad. He is deceased)
4) Ted Kord replaced Dan Garrett as Blue Beetle. Garrett is dead.
      Kord is still active.
5) There've been a whole slew of Starmans.
    a) Ted Knight... the golden age Starman. (retired)
    b) the Starman of 1952 (or something like that). (fate unknown)
    c) the Blue-skinned alien Starman (I forget his name). (still
       around)
    d) the other alien Starman who appeared in "Adventure Comics".
       (deceased)
    e) Will Payton... (supposedly died fighting Eclipso... but hey,
       this is comics, right?...)
    f) David Knight... son of the original Starman. (deceased)
    g) Jack Knight... son of the original Starman. (active)
6) There've been 3 sets of Hawkmen & Hawkgirls/Hawkwomen.
   a) Carter & Shiera Hall. (currently amalgamated into the current
     Hawkman).
   b) Hawkman II & Hawkwoman II. (both deceased - they were an
attempt by DC to explain the existance of a Hawkman & Hawkwoman
in continuity between "the Last Days Of The Justice Society Of
America Special" and the "Hawkworld" mini-series. Hawkman II was
really a bad guy who ended up killing his Hawkwoman... and I
     think ended up dying himself)
   c) Katar Hol & Shayera Thall. Shayera (as of the last time I saw
her) is currently inactive after losing her wings. Katar had the
souls (for lack of a better term) of the golden age Hawkman &
Hawkwoman, the Silent Knight and the western character, Nighthawk
amalgamated into him. He no longer relies upon artificial wings
to fly... as the amalgamation process gave him natural ones which
grow out of his shoulder-blades when he needs them.
7) Doctor Mid-Night (female) replaced Dr. Charles McNider (Dr. Mid-
      Nite). Both are deceased.
8) There've been a number of successors to the Dr. Fates mantle too.
    a) Doctor Fate I - Kent Nelson. (deceased)
    b) Doctor Fate II... a merging of 2 people. (deceased)
    c) Doctor Fate III... a merging of Kent & Inza Nelson. (deceased)
    d) Fate... I don't know his name. (active)
9) Wildcat II (female) replaced Ted Grant as Wildcat. Wildcat II is
      deceased. Grant is in semi-retirement.
10) a) Barry Allen replaced Jay Garrack as the Flash. Allen is dead.
      Garrack is in semi-retirement.
    b) Wally West replaced Barry Allen as the Flash. West is
currently active. (see David Blocker's list)
    c) John Fox eventually becomes the Flash in like the 25th Century
       or something like that.
    d) A another new future-Flash was introduced in the "Speed Force
       Special".
11) There've been 3 Firebrands (see David Blocker's list).
    a) the original Firebrand. (fate unknown)
    b) Firebrand II (sister of the original and early member of the
      All-Star Squadron). (fate unknown)
    c) Firebrand III. (presumably active)
12) Airwave II (son) replaced the golden age Airwave. (the original
is deceased. Airwave II is still presumably active... but uses
      a different code-name.
13) Fury II (Lyta) replaced the golden age Fury. The fate of the
golden age Fury is unknown. Fury II is inactive.
14) There've been 3 Hourmans.
    a) Rex Tyler. (deceased)
    b) Rick Tyler. He was diagnosed with Leukemia and although Rex
used his Hourman mantra to supposedly send his condition into
remission, Rick is probably inactive currently. (see David
      Blocker's list)
    c) A 100th Century Hourman (connected somehow to Rex Tyler) was
      recently introduced in "JLA".
15) Jesse Quick (Jesse Chambers) replaced her father, Johnny Quick
(Johnny Chambers). Johnny Quick died fighting Savatar. Jesse
      Quick is still active.
16) Jonni Thunder replaced Johnny Thunder (who, in turn has the same
name as a Wild West character). Johnny is retired. I don't
know what became of Jonni Thunder after Skyman died in
       "Infinity Inc.".
17) Negative Woman replaced Negative Man (who was supposed to be
dead). Both ended up merging to become Rebis. (status of
       Rebis is unknown)
18) Cliff Steele replaced the original Robotman (whose last name was
"Grayson"). Steele is still with the Doom Patrol (such as it
       is). Grayson's fate was revealled in a pre-Crisis back-up
feature in "DC Comics Presents"... but whether that bit of
continuity still stands has yet to be proved.
19) There've been 3 Vigilantes.
    a) Greg Sanders. (retired)
    b) Adrian Chase. (deceased)
    c) female Vigilante. (identity & status unknown)
20) The new Mister Terrific replaces Terry Sloane. Sloane was
murdered by the Spirit King during a JLA/JSA get-together. The
current Mr. Terrific (introduced in the pages of "the Spectre")
      is still active.
21) Amazing Man II (grandson of the original) replaces Amazing Man I.
Amazing Man I died of cancer (I think)... and Amazing Man II was
killed by the 2nd Mist in the pages of the current "Starman"
      series.
22) Cassie ???? replaces Donna Troy as Wonder Girl. Donna Troy is
      currently being revamped.
23) Quantum Kid II replaced her brother, Quantum Kid I (or was it Kid
Quantum?). Quantum Kid I was killed on one of his first
missions with the Legion Of Super-heroes. Quantum Kid II has
      just joined the Legion.
24) Alien Starfire (Princess Koriand'r) replaces Russian Starfire.
Russian Starfire changes super-name to Red Star. Alien Starfire
is not currently on Earth. Red Star is presumably back in
      Russia.
25) Azrael temporarily replaced Bruce Wayne as Batman (after Bats
suffered a serious back injury at the hands of Bane).
26) Steel, the Eradicator, the Cyborg & Superboy all came forward to
claim the name, "Superman" after the original was killed
fighting Doomsday. The name reverted back to Clark Kent after
      his resurrection.
27) There've been 3 Wonder Women.
    a) Princess Diana. (lost mantle to Artemis in second contest)
    b) Artemis. (Requiem - lost mantle when she was killed in battle.
Eventually she escaped from Hell and took the name "Requiem").
Wonder Woman title went back to Diana.
    c) Queen Hippolyta (Diana's mother). Took on mantle as punishment
for her role in both Artemis' death and later, Diana's (as a
direct result, Zeus elevated Diana to godhood). Hippolyta has
been retroactively inserted as the golden age Wonder Woman... as
well as fullfilling Diana's role in the JLA.
28) There've been at least 4 Manhunters.
    a) Paul Kirk. (deceased... a clone of him was running around the
DC Universe for a while... but whether that's still a part of
the post-Crisis continuity is up for debate.
    b) Manhunter II (fate unknown). He had a dog named "Thor".
    c) Mark Shaw. (currently active).
    d) Manhunter IV (deceased) Shaw took mantle back in final issue
      of Manhunter IV's short-lived series.
29) Android, John Smith replaced Ma Hunkle as the Red Tornado. Hunkle
presumable retired. Red Tornado II is probably still active.
30) Jack O'Lantern II (of Primal Force fame) replaced Jack O'Lantern I
(of the Global Guardians fame) after his death.
31) Garth (nee: Aqualad) replaces Joshua Clay (of Doom Patrol II fame)
as Tempest. Clay is deceased. Garth is still active.
Whew! I know there's still more... but this is all I can come up
with right now.
Talk to you later.
David
